Andrew "Hitz" Phillip - Music Producer, Sound Engineer, Song Writer and more

Guest: Andrew "Hitz" Phillip

In this inaugural episode of Pathways our host, Arlene, chats with Hitz about his journey getting into the music industry, following passion, and learning from hard lessons along the way.

Andrew “Hitz” Phillip is a Grenadian music producer and sound engineer, entertainer, songwriter and entrepreneur. Born December 6th 1986, in St. George’s, Hitz showed great promise in the musical arts from a very young age and was quite unaware of where this love for music would take him. Using the Double Tenor Steel Pan as his main instrument of choice, Hitz engaged his musical journey in late 1995. Continuing his growth throughout the years, he then, in 2007, moved to Trinidad and Tobago.

From November 2007 to February 2012, ‘Hitz’ worked as a member of the esteemed Roy Cape All Stars, while simultaneously building his songwriting and production career at the Champion Sound Studios in St. Ann’s, Port of Spain. This studio was owned and operated by his Mentor: Martin ‘Mice’ Raymond.

From then to now, Hitz has developed both his songwriting and production techniques. With these and his vocal ability to boot, he has amassed a catalog of music that includes hits like 2010’s ‘Tanti Woi’ performed by Blaxx, Machel Montano’s ‘Witch Doctor’, Kerwin Du Bois’ ‘Press Ah Button’ & Iwer George’s ‘Come to Meh’, to name a few.

All this growth now allows Hitz to embark on a new journey, taking himself into the spotlight as he performs his own vocals on songs like his 2016 single ‘Can’t Let You Get Away’, 2017’s ‘Show Them’ feat. Valene Nedd (which earned a spot in Grenada’s National Soca Monarch Finals of that year) and his present single “We Ain’t Going Nowhere” a song created to illustrate the heart of true fetters & Masqueraders everywhere.
