Dr. Kenrith Carter - Veterinary Surgeon, Wildlife Vet and Conservationist

Guest: Kenrith Carter

This episode is sure to take you on a ride! Kenrith shares stories about everything from delivering a kid from its goat mother after 3 days in labour, to traveling up the islands on Richard Branson’s super yacht.

We hope you enjoy the journey on today’s Pathway!

Dr. Kenrith Carter is a Grenadian veterinary surgeon with additional qualifications in exotic animal medicine and surgery. He has been operating a mobile veterinary practice, Dr CarterVet, since 2015 in Grenada where he treats everything from dogs & cats to horses, livestock, exotics & wildlife (monkeys, parrots, sea turtles and even lemurs). His practice offers a wide range of veterinary procedures including ultrasounds, surgeries and blood testing, while carrying a wide selection of medication that animals may need.

Carter’s initial intention was to put a local face to veterinary medicine in Grenada and to bring comprehensive animal care and medical guidance to everyone in the Tri-Island state. After realising the need for improvements in the livestock industry, he gained additional qualifications in genetics and animal breeding with a goal of making a positive impact on this industry and the livelihoods of small scale farmers around Grenada.

Kenrith has worked internationally as a wildlife vet, recently completing a contract with the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Somaliland, Africa. Always intrigued by birds, he’s also an avid birder. He is currently the top ebird birder for Grenada with the highest number of species and lists documented, both on his own and as part of the 3KCBirding Group. Dr. Carter strongly believes in conservation, and since 2018 has been volunteering as the sea turtle veterinarian for a local Non-Governmental Organization, Ocean Spirits Inc. More recently, he’s been heavily involved in seabird nesting and biodiversity research with Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC), documenting resident and migratory birds.

In an effort to showcase the life of a Grenadian Vet on the island, Kenrith recently launched a youtube channel where he posts day-to-day experiences, educational videos and tutorials. Check it out at DrCarterVet!
